Rain Room – Immersive Art that’s Perfect for Social Media

People love to be part of the show… or part of the art, as the case may be. They’re lining up outside MoMA for up to seven hours for the experience of controlling the rain for five minutes. The constantly pouring rain is controlled by digital sensors that detect a human body walking underneath them. According to the MoMA website, it “creates a carefully choreographed downpour, simultaneously encouraging people to become performers on an unexpected stage and creating an intimate atmosphere of contemplation “. You can walk, dance, pose or just stand still and not get wet. Meanwhile, it’s pouring all around you.

Social media helps its popularity. Visitors are free to take pictures and share them with their friends. Only ten people at a time are allowed to enter, so there’s plenty of room to strike a pose and get an amazing shot to share. Just do a Google picture search for “Rain Room” and see all the pictures that come up.

Rain Room was created by Random International. Click here for more info.

For those who don’t want to wait seven hours to be in the rain, there’s a much shorter wait for the gallery. You can see it on the right in the picture below.
